I approached this assignment with dread it felt like a mammoth task and I did not know where to start. I began by researching contemporary design books, paint sample books and swatches. Looking through these helped to give me some direction and ideas.

The design I felt would match the brief and fit the desired look I wanted achieve was the second design. I wanted to try and use some of the apps we had researched as part of this unit. One I had come across which worked a lot like Photoshop was Photopea. Creating a colour boarder for the top of the page of rainbow colours and then picking a style of font I felt would look stylish and modern.
Not only did I have to think about the design of the book but also how I was going to make the book. I originally wanted to use A4, but then reviewing the work I wanted to display within the book I felt I need A3. I also wanted to use a strong card to support the work, so I chose to work with 300gsm card.
I then needed to find a way to bind the book together, I decided I wanted to be able to add to the book with any further colour studies. I sourced some ring binder hoops that would fit the brief.
I also wanted to continue on with the theme throughout the book, choosing to carry on the colour palette boarder on each page. Again using an app, this time I used the Adobe Colour app to create palettes. Using an image from the page to pull the colours out of to create the boarder.
Although the print for the first colour came out well, the sticking it to the card did not go as well. I wanted to use spray mount to enable me to reposition the piece and giving a more even coverage of glue. Unfortunately this was not achieved and ripples were created across the page. I then tried lots of glue stick to try and save it but unfortunately neither worked. On reflection I should of either printed more than one, or tried to print it on thinner card. Although I am not sure it would work in the printer. Maybe if I get a chance to print another I will and replace it.
The other thing I found frustrating with printing out the boarders for the page was that the colours on the app printed out less vibrant which was disappointing.
I found picking the pieces to put in the book easier than I anticipated. Picking the work that showed the most successful pieces that displayed a mixture of skills.
Laying each piece out onto the page ensuring it is the best possible layout to display the work. Using the corresponding colour chips to explain the colour work. Choosing to use minimal words to explain the work and letting the work speak for itself. Using the boarder to link the pages together, appearing on the edge of each page.
